Corbin's Newborns

We took pictures of Corbin when he was 6 days old. He didn't really care to have his pictures taken and therefore didn't cooperate so well...it took us quite a while but at least we did manage to get a few cute ones of him. Thankfully my sister had the patience to take them...she did mention he was one of the hardest babies to photograph because he is so wiggly and wouldn't stay still very long and did not want to sleep! I am still hoping to take a few more...now that he is almost a month old-but it has been a busy last month. But I am happy with how these ones turned out!
I love my little handsome boy so much!

Nightly Feedings

I must say any feedings before about 12:30am or after 5amish are not as bad but for those few hours in between they sure are tough for me to do. (ok so basically for most the night) I am so tired, its hard to stay awake to keep him awake to eat. There have been plenty of times now that we both are just completely out and I wake up with a kinked neck or back and cant really tell you how long I was sitting (sleeping) there...But I have learned if he doesn't stay awake long enough to get all that he needs and I put him back down then he is crying again within about an hour for more. not so much fun. I found the only way I am able to stay awake is to just browse the internet-and it sure got a lot better now that we have the internet at our new place. but I can admit sometimes I get distracted reading something and notice he is sound asleep. looks a bit similar to this maybe?...
It does take a little longer for me to fall back asleep once I crawl into bed since I wake myself up instead of feeding him half awake. So sometimes I don't know if keeping myself or him awake while trying to feed him is more of a challenge. He usually needs a diaper change so that does the trick for waking him up..at least for a while. But the diaper change itself is quite the process..it is a miracle if he does not spit up all over, pee all over, or pooh all over, or all three while changing him! He has peed on his own face multiple times and even had a straight shot all over mine now! A single diaper change can take up to 3 diapers before he is changed. He can be quite the messy boy! So each time I get up to feed him its about a 45 minute process..and sometimes he spits up just about everything he ate so I have to basically start the whole process over again and change his clothes. He is going about every 2 hours now instead of ever 1.5 hours and he has even gone a 3 hour stretch maybe a couple times (how nice that is). After he eats sometimes he gives me these huge cute smiles and that makes it all worth it right there!
Everyone says sleep when your baby does but I am not a good napper. But I do sleep when he will let me in the mornings. So you can't expect much out of us before about 11-12ish. We are probably snuggling in bed! Which I told myself I didn't want my babies sleeping in bed with me, but in those morning hours when I am desperate for sleep he spends a little time with me. We have tried just about everything to figure out what is best for him to sleep in. A bassinet, a co-sleeper, his car seat, and a swing. And I think the swing is the winner...for now at least. He can't sleep in our room because he is a grunter. So good thing the other room is so close that we can still hear him just not loud enough that we can't sleep. So glad we do have the swing right now...and he sure does look cute in it sleeping or awake..

Life with a newborn

Wow..well where to start?

Jesse had his last day of school EVER! :) He graduated with his Masters in Business Administration. Couldn't be more proud of him, such a smart man I married! He worked so hard those last nine months with school AND dealing with his pregnant wife the whole time..and living basically off our savings. They had the whole graduation ceremony thing the beginning of May but still had school till June 1st. Jesse decided he didn’t really care to go since his family was out of town and I went to his bachelors graduation so there was no need-and I don’t think we missed out on much..

So on Friday June 1st we packed all morning and moved out and said goodbye to Logan. I really do love Logan it’s such a pretty place and I wouldn’t mind living there but it’s just hard with family living in Kaysville. As you know we drove down I think at least once a week. We slept at Jesse’s parent’s house then unpacked everything on Saturday. And slowly have been getting everything organized.

Jesse started work on Monday June 4th at his new job working at Camping World in Draper as a Sales Manger. Yes, I said Draper. Jesse wanted to still live in Kaysville so we could be close to family for me and the babe. Selfless man he is. It is quite the change for us for him to be gone such long hours of the day. Leaving about 8 am and getting home between 6-8pm. But he is enjoying the new job so far and it will be good for our little family!

Now on to Corbin...he is just learning how to live life here! It's been kind of a rough start. We have our good days and bad days...or I should say there are the days where no sleep catches up real quick-so exhaustion mixed with hormones makes you feel a bit overwhelmed. But then once I sneak a nap in or get more than 2 hours of sleep at night I don't think it’s all that bad. He likes to eat about every 1.5 hours and I am lucky to have him go 2. He has been taking about 45 minutes to feed and then by the time I change him and get settled I feel like it is just about time to get up and do it all over again. But that’s just how some newborns are right? He is also one that spits up quite frequently which just makes me worried that there is that much less in his belly. But I just learned that maybe he is not getting a full belly because he gets too tired before he is done eating and that could be the reason why he wants to eat so frequently…so I am beginning to try new things out to see if something helps. He is only a little over 2 weeks old so we have to give us both time to figure each other out.

I can honestly say I don't feel overwhelmed for the most part because I knew this is what it could/would be like…and I have good family support to help me out! And I hope it doesn’t come off as complaining because he really is a good baby and I am enjoying it! But of course being a parent is hard work. But also being a mother to my sweet little boy is one of the greatest things! We sure do love him and feel blessed to be his parents! One of the hardest things for Jesse and I have been when you have that helpless feeling of not knowing what they want or if something is wrong or if they are in pain-but that just comes with being a parent...

And here are some pictures from these past 2 weeks from my phone...not the best of pictures but I have not been good at taking pictures, hopefully I will get better at it. He just looks so much cuter next to me than in a picture. ;) And he tends to look different in every pictures to me. But I do think he looks likes the sweestest baby boy when he sleeps so I tend to take pictures then! :)
looks quite relaxed after a feeding
It's hard to catch his quick smiles
He does this face quite often
Forcing a smile...
Relaxin on daddy
Hangin by the pool...Soon enough we will be in the pool! :)
Cousins...Garrett apparently plumped up in these last few months.

Corbin's Birth Story!

I wanted to hurry and write his birth story down before I forget even more. Especially with this lack of sleep my brain seems to be losing it! :) And the fact that he is sleeping right now...on my chest but I can type this one handed. It might be a little too much information for some people but I guess this is the warning. And it will probably be long but I want to remember!

Well, as some people know, I thought I would try to plan it all out of when I would have our baby so it would be somewhat convenient for Jesse since I didn't want him to miss school and I wanted to have our baby before we moved down to Kaysville-even though some people told me that having everything moved before the baby would have maybe been easier. For at least the past month I have been telling everyone we were going to have him May 25th-mostly joking but thinking if I put my mind to it and do the things that put you into labor there wold be the slightest possibility...

Monday early morning that week I started having some pretty bad cramping but it felt more like bowel cramping but it started getting worse and it was off and on so there was a possibility it could be the start of labor...basically I was in the bathroom all morning. I looked on the internet and read that it could be a sign of the beginning of labor. Finally mid morning I started feeling better and I called my doctors office just to kinda let them know and see if I needed to do anything. They wanted me to come in and get checked and make sure everything was OK and if it was maybe the beginning of labor-I was pretty sure it wasn't but I knew it would be nice to be reassured. We went in and they checked me and I was dilated a little more but the doctor thought it was probably gastroentrotitis because a few other woman had gone in that same day for it. They told me to go home and just take it easy and stay hydrated and basically that I could go into labor that night or in 2 weeks-you just never know. I knew I could not choose when but I laid around the next few days not doing much because I didn't want to go into labor quite yet.

Come Thursday I decided that I could probably get things started if I wanted to have the baby that weekend (Friday preferably.. (: ) We have all heard what some people think put you into labor so I decided I would try some of them out that day. That afternoon I went to the park with my nephew Max and climbed and bounced around..no cramping or any sign at all. For dinner I made asian chicken but put some extra red pepper flakes to maybe make the food more spicy...That evening I decided while Jesse was at the school doing home work I walked around campus. I walked the long stairs on Old Main Hill. Then being the slightly paranoid pregnant lady I realized I didn't know the last time I felt him move and my stomach was kinda hard from walking around, so i decided to lay down for a bit on the grass. It was actually quite nice just relaxing there-with the view of the temple. And I might have had a small moment with my little man and told him its OK to come out-and tomorrow is the day :) That night I had Jesse give me a good foot massage...

Friday morning I woke up with a little bit of cramping but the last month of pregnancy I have felt some off and on so nothing really new. But in my head I wanted today to be the day! Jesse family was planning on going up to the cabin for the holiday weekend so we planned on going with them...but in my head I just kept saying we are not going...I pretty much had it set in my mind I wanted to have our baby that weekend! But then again I knew that I was setting myself up for disappointment especially if it comes June and I still did not have the baby! That is a hard thing the end of pregnancy not knowing when your baby is coming for sure!

I took Jesse to school in the morning then came home and walked around our small apartment, did some squats, a few jumping jacks...then kinda just laughed at myself. Jesse came home and we sat on the couch and we didn't have anything to do...so we decided to go lay down in bed and relax. Shortly after around 9:30 I started feeling like I was cramping quite bad..and Jesse was asleep. They started getting worse and thats when Jesse noticed. From my experience on Monday morning we didn't know what to think. I started to pay attention to how often I was having them. It was about every 3-5 minutes but kinda inconsistent. Some hurt more than others. Around 11 my Dad randomly text me-he is out of town-but he asked me how I was doing..he said he just had a feeling that morning to text me. I just told him I was cramping kinda bad because I still didn't know what to think at this point. I finally decided to call my mom around 12:30-I don't know why because she has not experience any of the same symptoms of pregnancy it seems like-ha! While I was on the phone with her I had a few contractions and she told me I needed to go to the hospital to get checked-she was sure I was in labor. I didn't want to go and be disappointed and sent home but decided I really needed to when I could not even get myself dressed.

We got checked in around 1:30 and I was dilated between a 4-5 and 100% effaced with my bags of waters bulging and the baby's head engaged-that was the first time I was told the baby was not so far up! I was hooked up to all the monitors-which I hated I felt so uncomfortable in that bed. The nurse asked me what kind of pain measurements I wanted and at that point I told her it depends. Jesse, knowing what we had talked about me wanting, told her I wanted to try to go natural but I am not opposed to an epidural. Every contraction I had I thought of the P.A.I.N. acronym we learned. I said to myself this is P-purposeful A-anticipated I-intermittent N-normal. I felt like it helped a little to remind myself. About an hour later she checked me again and I was at a 7, the contractions were getting a lot worse at this point. She then asked me what I wanted to do about my pain she obviously knew I was in ALOT of pain. I felt that since I had progressed pretty quickly that maybe I would continue to and didn't want to give up on going natural if I was so close. BUT I was in SO much pain! I can't quite tell you why I had such a desire to try to go natural. I think its because my mom did with all 4 girls and my sister did as well-so I wanted to see if I could. The part of me that likes to see if I can do hard things I guess! I decided to have her give me the smallest amount possible of IV pain med. It basically made me feel a little loopy but I can't say it took much of the pain off. Jesse would reassure me that we were going to see our little baby boy real soon! At that point I got a little emotional! Shortly after she came in again and checked me and I was at a 9! She said she was going to call the doctor and when he broke my bags of water it would probably go really quick from there. Well within a few minutes of excruciating painful contractions my bags of waters broke spontaneously. Jesse quickly told the nurse. I started feeling the urge to push and didn't know my body would basically not give me a choice. Within a few minutes the doctor was there and through the next couple contractions I pushed. I said multiple times out loud that I could not do it anymore! I didn't think my body was capable of doing something like that! Jesse was the best support/coach. He sat there and held my hand through each contraction as I wanted to die!Jesse said I pushed around 4 times..I say it was around closer to 10ish. Either way it was a lot to handle at the time but I know the baby did come out quite fast. When the baby did come out the flood of emotions that come upon me right after were indescribable. I cried tears of joy that I could see my little baby boy! and that I Did It! It was all over! (well of course it wasn't the end of having some pain-but at least the hardest part was over) Jesse was able to cut the cord which was a surprise to me! We talked about how he would probably just have to stand at the top of the bed because he does not do well with any type of blood or things like that! He did so well through it all though! I could not have done it with out him! They cleaned him up and then I cuddled with my baby boy on my chest for the next little while! It's one of my favorite things now, just to have him lay on me! He is the sweetest baby boy especially when he is sleeping like that! :) And I must add he is already an obedient child for coming when I asked...He must already love his parents, or Heavenly Father knew that really that was the best time for us!

What to do?

So, I am officially kinda bored I must admit. I don't know what to do with myself right now. But I know I am suppose to enjoy this time to relax and that is exactly what I am doing! :) I basically lay around all day long-I know very productive! I make sure our apartment is clean...even though it can't look clean because of the boxes and stuff we have laying around waiting to pack this place up. Jesse says we can't do much to pack until basically the day we are moving which is going to be June 1-2. So I feel like our place will kinda be a mess till then. I probably should be doing something to be more prepared for our baby and moving but I just don't know right now?? I part of me feels that if I go walk and do things I could probably get this baby out a little sooner (I am dilated to a 2, 90% effaced-but that doesn't really mean a whole lot to predict when) but I am trying to make it convenient for Jesse so he doesn't miss class. ha :)
I will take any suggestions of what I should do right now...I know someone has some good advice for me! I got a pedicure with my mom last weekend and Jesse and I went with some friends (who are also pregnant) to see the movie 'What to Expect When your Expecting'...Yes, I felt slightly dumb walking in to the movie 39 weeks pregnant. so pretty much I am ready right? ha!
So our lives are going to change quite a bit in these next couple weeks with a baby, moving, and a new full time busy job for Jesse (Big boy world now). We are excited!..well I hope Jesse is not too stressed! :) He sure does work hard for our little family!

38 Weeks

Random fact thanks to my blog timelines:
Been married 2 years 2 months and 2 days...and Baby Jensen is due in 2 weeks!
38 weeks pregnant...basically that means our baby could come anytime. We are basically ready...well as ready as we are going to get I guess. I still am feeling pretty well for the most part. Had a little bit of swelling this last week and definitely have days where I feel quite frumpy. We prefer for him not to come this week because my doctor is out of town...but I would like him by the end of May for sure..please! :) We keep telling our little one May 25th would be great! I planned it all out that by that Friday evening (May 25th) I will be ready and within a couple hours of being at the hospital have our baby and then be out by Saturday evening, then we would have Sunday and Monday all together..then Jesse finishes his last week of school and then we move. Ha ha I know it's quite laughable. And I know I can't plan any of it out...and I will definitely need to be flexible. Now let's just see how it all works out! :)

Maternity Pics

So I was a little hesitant about taking maternity pictures because some days I do not feel attractive at all but I decided that it has been such an amazing thing to be pregnant and experience everything that comes with it that I want to remember it..and pictures always help me with remembering things! And Jesse was a good sport about taking them with me because I don't care to take pictures alone and really because he is just as much part of everything! I sure do love him! :) I was about 35 weeks pregnant when they were taken-Here are a few..
Big Thanks to my sister Courtney (Pouslen Photography) who took them for us!
